THE KGB

The KGB is the most infamous state ministry in the PRT.  While officially a government organization, the KGB acts as the Party's strong arm of intellegence and indoctrinating/serviellence.  KGB itself stands for "Ministry of State Security" in Cyrellic lettering.  The KGB is subordinate in practice only to the Defense Council (and ultimatly the Party and General Secretary), to which its chairman has a seat upon.  All of its members must be Party members, though this rule is relaxed for the associates who act as informers.  Every Oblast and City has central KGB HQ as well.

Structure

The KGB is led by a chairman (who holds Minister rank), who is appointed by the General Secretary and who also always holds a Defense Council seat, as stated.  Below him sit a first deputy chairman and four deputy chairmen, not to mention a Chief of Staff.  They, together with the 12 department heads and five candidate members, form the "KGB Collegium" or ruling body.  There is also a KGB Secretariat, made up solely of the chairman and department heads.  Along with this there is a KGB archives, technical staff, and various Public Party Offices.  The KGB is further divided into 12 fully staffed departments, which intern have many divisions each:

  • First Department: Handles foreign intellegence and is one of the largest sectors, with spies in many nations, to say the least.
  • Second Department: Handles internal control of citizens and is the KGB's largest department and thus quite powerful.  It deals with political crime.
  • Third Department: Handles military counter intellegence and serviellence of the Worker's and Peasent's Red Army; it also deals with military political crime.
  • Fourth Department: Deals with political control of non-citizens, such as tourists, and handling political crime in that area.
  • Fifth Department: Handles surviellence, and keeps a close watch on the citizens, alerting the Second Department of political crime.
  • Sixth Department: Deals with communications and thier monitering.  Thus it works closely with the First and Fourth Departments.
  • Seventh Department: Provides body guards to Party and government leaders and their families.  It also provides guards for government buildings
  • Eighth Department: Deals with monitering all government and Party communications for counter intellegence.
  • Ninth Department: Handles border control, distributing troops for national defense.
  • Tenth Department: Deals with the Tharran Gulags.  It controls and staffs the facilities used for "corrective labor" and thus handles thier administration.
  • Eleventh Department: Handles KGB finance, keeping detailed records and a well funded treasury to allow the KGB to fuction.
  • Twelfth Department: Deals with internal administration of the KGB, making sure everything runs smoothly according to the chairman's orders.
