NATIONAL SYMBOLS
According to the constitution, there are several established state symbols in Tharra that symbolize the nation.
The Red Fortress
The Red Fortress is an enduring symbol of Stalinist power. The great complex of offices was built begun in 1 AR, over the ruins of the former palace of the empire. For stragtegic sake, it was built on the north side of the Red Square, in the capital of Stalinova. The Fortress was completed in the year 5 AR, in the same year as the completion of the first Five Year Plan. The fortress is surrounded by a great red wall and is heavily guarded by KGB troops. It contains every central government office, the estates of every top government/party official, and the meeting halls for all of the central national bodies, such as the Central Committee and Supreme Soviet.
The Red Square
Another strong symbol of Stalinism and the enduring state, is the Red Square. This massive city square in Stalinova is the largest in the nation. It was once the "Imperial Square" however, after the revolution it was greatly expanded. Today, the red brick square is the center point of countless rallies of Party and military, that seem to happen daily. The north side is dominated by the Red Fortress, and in the center there is a statue of Comrade Lekov, with the inscription: "In memory of all those who gave their lives in the Battle of Red Square; may Comrade Stalin guide us to victory over capitalism."
The National Flag
The Flag of Tharra was adopted by the Supreme Soviet in the year 2 AR; it is modled after the one used by Comrade Stalin during the days of the USSR. It depicts a yellow hammer and sickle, symbolizing the workers and peasents. This is on a field of red to symbolize stalinism.
The National Seal
The national seal was adopted by Comrade Lekov after the revolution, in the year 4 AR. It depicts the gates of the Red Fortress in the center, to symbolize the Party. This is surrounded by sheaves of wheat, to symbolize the peasents; joining the ears of wheat are a hammer and sickle, with the lettering SRT above in red. Joining them below is a red star and the portrait of the current leader. Three cogwheels surround this to symbolize the workers, and the words "Let Live Forever the Name and Work of Josef Stalin!" appear in gold on a red banner below.
National Costume
On important national occassions, most dress in national costume. This consists of blue overalls, to symbolize the prolitariat, and a red armband. However, there a few exceptions to this rule. Military officials are allowed to dress in military uniform, and Party members usually wear a so called "Revolutionary Suite" which resembles a military uniform, but colored black.
SOCIAL STATUS IN THARRA
While technically, class does not exist in Tharra (indeed status is not hereditary, instead Party members simply secure postions for their childern instead), it is apparent that their are different status ranks.
At the top of the ladder are the Nomenklatura (1% of the population). They are the ones who hold elite party postions, and also elite government ones. As such, they have acess to the best homes, summer dachas, universities, liscense to leave the country, and no restraint on rations (thus shopping at elite stores, getting the finest imports, etc.), many even have a servant or two. The top elite, they also usually secure positions for their children in the Komosol, and bend the rules on Party application tests, to allow them to join their ranks.
There are also Blue and White Collar workers, who make up about 20 and 60 percent of the population respectively. However, of these groups, 30 percent of the White Collar workers and 6 percent of the Blue Collar workers are Party members. These workers are supposidly the "glorified" of society, though they are realitivly downtrodden. Finally, at the bottom of the ranks, are the agricultural workers, who make up 14% of the population. They are scorned by most, and are considered below even the prolitariate. Less than 1 percent belong to the Party.
Members of the Party that are not nomenklatura (5% of the population) are reffered to as 'rank and file member' and the 'outer party'. They are not as well off as the Nomenklatura, but still are much better off than the average citizen. They are allowed preferential treatment when applying for homes, cars, and other items, not to mention the speacial privilege of shopping at slightly more well stocked stores.
